Tools

i have people asking me what kind of brush i used, what is dotting tool, and where to buy. So i decide to write a post of this - Tools.
This is the longest post i have written, hee.. So please bear with me.

I started DIY quite some time ago. i always self experiment and playing around with different "tools", nail decor, colors, trying to inmitate those interesting and pretty naily designs which i saw from magazine/website. So i kinda gain some experience from there.

These are the ones i have tested and frequently used. They are quite commonly found and inexpensive tools to doll up your naily pretty.

Art Brush
You can get this from any bookstore. They came in various of different size but we only need those tiny one. I have 2 sizes, both are thin & skinny art brush for different drawing. This one below is the one frequent used.

Old dried Eye Liner
Don't throw your eye liner away! they can be recycle as a naily art brush! This substitute as a art brush, but may not draw fine lines as good as the art brushes. However, it can be used to draw dots or lines.

Dotting Tool
This is one of my favorite tool, it is more widely seen now. i heard from my gal friends, it was seen selling in Daiso. I had mine purchase from US website when buying some nail polish quite some time ago. This is use to draw little circle for your polka dots, or animal eye balls...

Bobbin Pin
This can be used as substitute of Dotting Tool. Before i found a real dotting tool, i tried all sort of stuffs. Bobbin Pin can easily be grab from any girls's room. There are a few different type of bobbin pin, work best for those with round tips. Below one is "semi" round tip but work fine as well.

Round Tip
Any Pen, pencil or makeup brush, as long as its round tip on the end, this can be a perfect dotting tool. And usually the size is bigger, hence you can use this to create a bigger circle.

Toothpick
Sharp or round, both work well. Remember the blossom design, i use the toothpick to draw the branches.
If the toothpick is too sharp and can't pick up the lacquer much, push it against the table and make it kinda blunt.

How round is the circle?
below is the sample of the dots i create using the dotting tools as above. You can see the size of dot is depend on the size of the dotting tool.
From left to right: Eyeliner, Tip of makeup brush, dotting tool, toothpick round, toothpick sharp, bobbin pin

The Perfect Dot
How to get this perfect circle/dot on your naily. Jus dab any round tip with nail lacquer and gently dot on your naily. Sound easy? Yes, it is not difficult and this is a very useful technique. Try it.

Remember the size of the circle/dot created depends on the size of your dotting tool.

Too Dry
The nail lacquer does not form a nice circle on the naily. Or like pulling out a piece of cheese pizza from the whole, there are these "sticky strings".. If you saw these "sticky strings" coming out from dot after you dab the dotting tool on your naily.
This mean the nail lacquer on your naily is too dry hence causing the "pizza cheese strings".

Too little, and too much strength
Having a dot inside a dot? What cause this?
This usually happens when the lacquer on the dotting tool is too little, or you press the dotting tool too hard on your naily. You do not need any mighty strength to create a dot on your naily. Just hold your dotting tool steadily, and a gentle dab on your naily. You will get a perfect circle.
No worries, just practice more. You will get the hang of it in no time.

One last reminder, only do attempt to draw lines/circle on your nail after the nail lacquer on your nail is dry. Else the tools will "sink" into the nail lacquer instead of drawing on the surface of the lacquer.
Hope you gals have a fun time drawing on your naily. If you have any enquires about the tools, do drop me an email or comment as below, i will try my best to explain.

Have a nice weekend.
