Love and Hate relationship for Mixed media

Mixed media is very new to me.
But I'm so deeply attracted to these amazing 3d art work.
After completed e diploma course, I took an additional advance course for mixed media.

There is a nailympics in Korea in end oct. i really wish to go to take a look of e big naily world out there. but it was a bad timing as It clashed with my USA trip. My standard not up for competition but it WOULD BE a GREAT experience and eye opener.

Like my principle Rachel says.. You got to get it start somehow somewhere, so why not now.

i cant go to e competition in korea, but there is one event i can participant
- mixed media.
i decide to give it a try. The art work is done beforehand and submitted to my school. Teacher/students will help to bring my artwork over.

Mixed media and fantasy art is like a fashion show for nails.
Mixed Media is doing your naily art with at meast 3 techniques. I used freehand drawing, embossed art and 3D art. Rules -3D art cannot be more than 5mm and the frame cannot be more than 10'' in any length.
For Fantasy which is next next higher level, Models are dressed up for the competition. They will be cat walking and showing off e naily.
Fanstasy is more 3D than Mixed Media.
It would really be great if I can witness this myself.
One day -- I will take part in this event..!

When I show my gfs my project on e mixed media, all stare and give me blank look.
"why so big?" "who will do this?" "so weird" "how to go work in this nails?"
Questions and remark like this are common... ... They just don't understand
*grin

It's a art
Just like I don't understand why splashes of paint on a painting cost million dollars :p

This is my "project" that I had been busy with recently.
sleeping at wee hours every day for this baby
Coming up with e design is enough to kills alot of my brain cells.
Building e tips from stretch, finding e color palette, sourcing e suitable design. Phew!
love how it looks, but hate how much material it costs me
= Love and Hate =
Finally this is over!
I feel proud of myself to have them completed-in time.
Here I present u, my first mixed media art piece to be submitted for nailympic
My Secret Garden

They aint perfect and i no expect to have any winning in the nailympic
but i did learnt alot from this.
when i attend the mixed media course, i was only taught e basic.
You can only experience e fun and pain when you actual start doing it

= My draft =
This is the initial drawing, and of coz when you get to do the actual work,
there are bound to have changes.
The arrangement of e tips, the shape..
all these happen for e first timer me.
There are quite some hiccups and headache along the way,
but nothing beats e sense of achievement
when i complete each tip one by one.
each tip width is 2cm- 2.5cm. The width/length varies like our nature nails.
This picture is took after i have complete ard 50%
and lost for ideas what to draw for the remaining 3 tips.
I can stare at this for hours, thinking and thinking what to draw, how to draw.
finally all is up!

this was taken last 3 day before i submit.
left e roses, the faces of e creatures.. some touch up abit and good to go..
Glad that my timing on schedule.
feeling less stress i took some pic
=p
previously i was pretty stress up to take my picture.
=p
colors for the roses. since the picture was "alittle" colorful,
i decide to go pastel for roses at the bottom.

Spend a night from 2am-6am to compete some 3D roses.
This is pretty time consuming.

The Acrylic have to be 77% dry before i can start folding e roses. Sometimes i waited too long, and it dries up.
Once harden, i cannot folding e roses anymore, and thus some are wasted.
i will leave the feature to be draw e last.
reason, I scare to draw e feature on e creatures' faces.
any mistake, e whole thing can be ruined.
so i leave this to e last part
Other then drawing, we need to have a description of our artwork too.
as this nailympic is held in korea,
description need to be in English and Korean.
lucky me, i had some korean gf to help me out in this.

Last thing to do - FRAME UP
i need to stick them real steady so they can arrive in Korea in a piece.
one mistake - i did not measure the size of all 10 tips together, which cause me alot pain while trying to arrange them in the frame.
this layout was quite different as what you seen in the initial draft
believe me anot,
it took me around 2 hours to stick them on paper and arrange and frame it.
zzzzzz
well, at least i manage to squeeze them in eventually.
thats why i say, all these pain cannot be teach in classroom.
i experience and learn from mistake

Close up

Final pic to be submitted to Nailympic 2012
i think my LOVE will wins the HATE for mixed media.
Maybe i will do another one for next competition.
hee.. we shall see if time allows.
